I Didn't Have The Support I Needed So I Created It

by Sutton McCraney and Lace Flowers, Founders

Building a business will require a lot of grit and determination and one things for sure you can't do it alone.

There comes a point where you hire mentors and start networking. We all know it's easy to get burnt in the online space so you need to know who is a good fit.

This becomes even harder when you're in an ethic minority. There can often be this feeling that you are an outsider. When we say this we speak from personal experience.

Have you attended networking meetings and although people say they want to follow up they don't. There's a distinct feeling that you're not one of them. It's like an invisible brick wall which stops you growing your business.

Business is for all people - male, female, all ages and all types of experience. So it should follow that all different cultures should be embraced too. The sad thing is that's not always the case and you can be left like you're on the outside looking in.

You often hear the phrase if you're not accepted at the table build your own table. That's exactly what we've done at the Flavor Room.

We want ALL cultures to feel welcome. It's how we learn by embracing what makes us different.

At the Flavor Room we have created a place that enables people from all different cultures to learn. We appreciate that everyone is at different stages of building a business and we have created different tiers. From beginners, more advanced and those that feel good about their business but want to be around like minded people.

We all need support. Problem is it's hard to get support if you're made to feel like an outsider or people don't like the way you look. Which we have both been told on different occasions.

At the Flavor Room we have created training, networking the chance to collaborate and most importantly you're made to feel a part of things. As much as this is welcome to everyone we are being very discerning who we let in. There's no point someone joining and it's not a good fit. This is why people apply to be part of the Flavor Room so we know it's exactly what they need.

In addition to the Flavor Room we have the Flavor Works. This helps you behind the scenes of your business and helps you with technology and systems. Instead of putting things off because technology annoys you we can do the things you struggle to do. This allows you to do more of what you love in your business and create more impact.

Sutton McCraney and Lace Flowers are the Founders of the Flavor Room and the Flavor Works. Their mission is to create an inclusive place for business owners from different ethnic cultures to grow their business.
